Telling the Stories of the Civil Rights Movement in Fayette County, Tennessee

This website is an interactive venture dedicated to gathering and sharing stories, images, and creative work (songs, quilts, journal entries, etc.) from the Civil Rights era in Fayette County, Tennessee. Though we cannot begin to tell (or even find) every individual's story from this era, we want to include a variety of perspectives here; this site provides a venue in which Fayette County residents can describe their memories of these events. Sponsored by the Benjamin L. Hooks Institute at the University of Memphis, this website is being developed by faculty and students at Fayette-Ware High School, Iowa State University, and the University of Memphis.

This was the newsletter of the Original Fayette County Civic and Welfare League. Charlie Butts, a then student at Oberlin College, worked with Minnie Jameson, the secretary of the league from 1959 to approximately 2001 to create the first newsletters. Jameson, with the assistance of others, continued to publish this newsletter during the pivotal moments of the movement. The League’s Link provided first-had accounts by blacks of civil rights events as they transpired in Fayette County.
        <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher>
        <dc:rights></dc:rights>
        <dc:type>Image</dc:type>
